Our question this week was:

Dr. Debra – My cat has a microchip. She has a small lump (pea size) under her neck. Could this be the chip? I thought I read something about chips and tumors.

Answer

Hi – thanks for your email Debbie. You wrote that your cat has a lump on the under size of her next the size of a pea and you wonder if it could be the microchip. It is possible but most microchips are over the back or can migrate down the sides of a cat. I’d recommend having your cat scanned to see if this helps determine the location of the chip. Also, an x-ray will tell the presence and location of a chip.

We did some research on if microchips cause tumors – you may really like to read this article. Go to: Do Microchips Cause Cancer?

Best of luck!
