Our question this week was:

Dr. Debra – my cat seems sick – maybe has a fever. Can you give a cat Tylenol for a fever? I have some children’s Tylenol. Can you tell me the dose?

Answer

Hi – thanks for your email. NO! NO! NO! You can NOT give a cat Tylenol. In fact, do NOT give your cat any medication without discussing it with your veterinarian. One regular strength acetaminophen tablet is toxic and potentially lethal to a cat.

Please read Acetaminophen (Tylenol) Toxicity in Cats.

If your cat has a fever and is not feeling well – take him or her to your veterinarian. This article might be helpful – Fever in Cats.

Best of luck!
