Are there cat treat recipes?
There are many cat treat recipes available in cookbooks and on line. These recipes often contain fish or chicken and many contain catnip to entice your cat. To help answer this question, I posted a sign in my practice lobby asking about favorite cat recipe treats among my best cat lovers. They gave me the following recipes for cat recipe treats as their favorites:
Favorite Cat Treat Recipe Cookies
1 cup whole wheat flour
1/4 cup soy flour
1 1/2 teaspoon dried catnip
1 egg
1/3 cup milk or cat mild substitute e.g. KMR
2 T wheat germ
1/3 cup powdered milk
1 T unsulfurated molasses
2 T butter or vegetable oil
Mix the dry ingredients together and add the molasses, egg, oil and milk. Roll out and cut into small bit sized pieces. Bake for 20 minutes at 350° F. Let cool and store in a sealed container.
Favorite Cat Treat Recipe Pancake Cookies
4 oz ground sirloin
3 T Oatmeal
1 egg
1 1/2 T Catnip
Mix ingredients and form into a ball. Place on cookie sheet and flatten like a hamburger. Broil at 425 degrees F for 8 minutes total. It is ideal to flip half way during baking so it bakes for 4 minutes on each side. Bake until crisp. Let cool for 30 to 40 minutes. Cut into bite sized pieces. Store in a sealed container and keep in the refrigerator.
Catnip Tea Cat Treat Recipe
Boil one cup of water and mix with 1 Tbsp of dried cat nip. Allow to cool and serve to your cat!
Tuna Balls Cat Treat Recipe
1 can drained tuna
1/2 cup cut turkey or chicken
2/3 cup high quality dry cat food
To prepare, mix all ingredients until well mixed. Form into small balls. Chill in the refrigerator for one hour. After the balls are chilled, you may roll the balls in bread crumbs or parmesan cheese (for those cheese loving cats).
