Cat wetting problem

Our question this week was:

I have boy cat and had him for 7 years. He is neutered and has always been great. He does not go outside but does have his own screened-in room to go out in. I guess you would say he is very spoiled.

But after all this time he has started wetting on our bed! He has never done any thing like this ever. His litter box gets cleaned ever day. What would make him start doing this, is he telling me he has a kidney problem or what?

Any information would sure help, for I can not take this bed wetting that’s for sure.

Hi – Thanks for your email. I don’t blame you for being frustrated. Inappropriate urination is a very common problem in cats. The question is – is the problem medical (such as from a urinary tract infection, bladder stones, diabetes or some other problem) or is the problem behavioral? The only way to determine this is to have him evaluated by your veterinarian and allow them to do some tests.

I am going to give you a link to a very good article that talks inappropriate urination Inappropriate Elimination in Cats.

There is probably nothing that you have done that caused your cats behavior. It is him. We just need to figure out why.

Make sure you clean and try to eliminate the urine odor from any place that he has gone. The best way to eliminate cat urine odor is to use commercial products such as Nature’s Miracle or Urine Off.

Best of luck!
