Do Dogs Get MORE Love Than Cats?

Do dogs really get more love than cats?

According to a report in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association (JAVMA) entitled “Perceptions and Attitudes of Pet Owners Executive Summary”, dogs get more love and better care than cats.

According to the study, dog owners took their dogs to the veterinarian more often than cat owners and were more apt to seek vaccinations, check-ups and dental care. It was estimated in the report that only 13% of dogs did not see a veterinarian for an annual checkup as compared to 33% of cats. Also, dog owners spend about 45 hours per week with their dogs while cat owners only spend about 32 hours with their cats. Interesting.

Why do you think this is so? Some dog owners may believe that dogs need more care than cats because they must “go” outside. And some cat owners may have the false belief that cats don’t get sick or that they can take care of themselves.

Well, I question JAVMA’s “study” findings. It’s a sure bet they didn’t talk to PetPlace cat owners because I know your cats get lots of love.
