Kitten Vaccines, at what age are the first shots?

Our question this week was:

When does a kitten need for HER first shots?

Erin N.

Answer

Hi – thanks for your email.

Kittens should get their first set of shots between the ages of 6 to 8 weeks. They need repeat vaccines every 3 to 4 weeks until they are 12 to 16 weeks of age. The vaccines should protect against feline panleukopenia (“distemper”) and the upper respiratory viruses (herpesvirus, calicivirus).

An article that might be helpful to you our Petplace.com website is Vaccine Recommendations for Cats.

Best of luck!
