New rescued kitten who drips pinkish urine

Our question this week was:

I took a small kitten that was abandoned and the people who rescued them had to feed them with an eyedropper and bottle. Out of 4, 3 survived. They were born 2nd week in Sept. and I took this one the beginning of Nov.

I never had a cat but he gets along great with my 8 month old Bichon. The only problem is that he keeps dripping bloody urine drops all over. He came with Clavamox and a syringe and I am giving him Nutri-cal. He was irritated from the beginning from the other kittens suckling and I don’t know if this is a problem that needs a professional.

He doesn’t act sick but I am concerned as I keep a bucket handy as there are drops of pinkish urine wherever he goes. Is there anything I can do or is this a Veterinarian issue. I’ve always had a dog but this is something new to me. Can you give me any advice? My friend who subscribes to your newsletter sent it to me. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You in advance

Answer

Hi, thanks for your email.

Goodness, it sounds like you have a frustrating problem. A kitten that is leaking bloody urine is not normal. He is about 3 months old now and should be using the litter box. I’d recommend that you have him checked by your veterinarian to determine if he has an infection or some other urinary tract problem.

An article that might be helpful to you is on our Petplace.com is on Bloody Urinations in Cats and is called Hematuria in Cats.

Best of luck!
