What can I do for my cat that had surgery and won’t eat or drink?

Our question this week was:

I have a male cat who just underwent two surgeries for a urethral blockage, one to unblock, and one to remove stones from his bladder. It has been 5 days and he is not drinking or eating very mush and hardly urinating at all. Is there something that I could do? He is on clavmox and phenoxybenzamine.

Thank you,

Jim O.

Answer

Hi – thanks for your email. You wrote that your cat had surgery to unblock him and to remove stones from his bladder. That was five days ago, he won’t eat or drink much and is urinating all the time. I’d recommend that you call your vet immediately. I’d worry that he is dehydrated and may need a different antibiotic. This could be serious.
