Our question this week was:
Dr. Debra – my cat is terrified of the noise on trick or treat night – any tips on helping a cat to cope?
Hi – thanks for your email. You wrote that your cat is afraid of the noises associated with trick or treat night and would like some tips.
Here are my tips.
First – before the festivities begin – place your cat in a room where he or she is happy, has food, water and a littterbox during the festivities. Turn on the TV or radio to help block out the door bell and other associated noises. This will help drown out the noises that may make your cat scared or nervous but also being in a closed off room for a few hours can keep your cat safe (as I’ve seen several cats escape out the door when scared or curious on Halloween).
Second, another option is to not participate. Not every one participates in passing out candy. I’m not advocating either way but that would be an option.
Best of luck!
