What is the difference between a hairball and a furball? How do you treat them?

Our question this week was:

Dr. Debra,

What is the difference between a hairball and a furball?

Answer

Hi – thanks for your email. You wrote asking – what is the difference between a hairball
and a furball? They are the same thing. They both refer to hair that accumulates in a cats esophagus or stomach which they “spit up”.

An article that might be helpful to you is Hairballs in Cats.

Best of luck!

Dr. Debra
