How are veterinarians treating pets affected with kidney failure?

Our question this week was:

What are veterinarians being told on how to treat the kidney failure from the food recall?

Answer

Hi – thanks for your email. They are being told to treat the problems supportively – primarily with intravenous fluids and symptomatic support of vomiting and any other symptoms.

A couple articles that might be helpful on our Petplace.com site are "Acute Renal Failure in Cats" and "Acute Renal Failure in Dogs". These articles will give you more information about how renal failure is treated. Also, an article that has information for veterinarians might be of interest.

Best of luck!
