Cardigan Welsh Corgi and Pet Insurance – A Story to Consider

We never know when our pets might get sick. Just like with people, the world is unpredictable. You can try to protect them from accidents and dangerous situations, but you just can’t know what each day will bring. Sometimes genetics just aren’t in their favor and they become ill.

There is no way to be absolutely certain your new puppy will never have a sick day in his life. If you are already deeply in love and know that you will be willing to pay any amount to keep your dog healthy and a part of your home, pet insurance might be something to consider.

I received a letter from a woman that reminded that you just never know. Barbara Henckler in Forked River, New Jersey writes to tell us about her cardigan Welsh corgi and how surprised she has been with the health issues she has developed.

She writes, I should have had pet insurance. One of the reasons I chose a Cardigan Welsh Corgi was the breed’s history of good health and longevity. At age 6, she had a sudden onset of pancreatitis with no apparent cause. After a week in intensive care with several IV medicines and a blood transfusion, to the tune of nearly $2000, her life was saved, thank goodness and excellent veterinarians.

Two years later, after many tests, she was diagnosed with a very rare condition, diabetes insipidus. She needs hormone drops daily so her body will process the water she drinks. The cost is $92 per month for the rest of her life, hopefully another 6 or 7 years. She is worth every penny and more to me, but it would really have been a help to have had pet insurance!

Life is always throwing us curve balls and it never hurts to be prepared for the unexpected. Even if every dog you’ve ever had has been healthy up until the day he died, you never know. As with this Cardigan Welsh Corgi – you just never know. If pet insurance would help you with a financial situation and give you peace of mind, you might want to look into it.
