Keeping Pets Happy, Healthy, and Protected

We all want our pets to be safe and healthy. We commonly do all kinds of things to prevent disease, maintain health, and prevent problems.

For example, we prevent illness by vaccinating our dogs and cats, we try to maintain wellness by feeding a good quality food and use medications to prevent fleas and ticks. We also try to ensure our pets play, and get lots of exercise to be strong and happy.

Other things pet lovers can do at home to keep their pets safe is to keep their pet on a leash or in a fenced in yard, be careful about toxin exposure, keep trash cans covered, use medications only prescribed or recommended by your veterinarian and….observe your pet on a regular basis.

But there are some things you can’t prevent. You can’t prevent accidents that just happen and you can’t prevent diseases from occurring such as heart failure, kidney disease or cancer.

That is why for many years I have been recommending that you consider pet insurance. As a veterinarian, I’ve seen pet insurance over and over save pets lives. It can allow a pet to get the best treatment for a problem without worry about the financial implications.
