Here is a tip from one of our PetPlace.com users:

For a water bowl for outdoor dogs – I use medium small size ice chests. This keeps their water a more even temp. I put clean water in empty 2 liter soda bottles and freeze them. When temps get over 80 degrees, I place one in each of the dogs water container.
