Hi – thanks for your email. You wrote asking – how long is a rabies shot really good for? You ask a very good question. Rabies vaccine recommendations depend on vaccine and your local ordinances. Some vaccines are labeled to be good for 1 year and others for 3 years. Generally, most vaccines and tags are good for one years. Also, it is important to follow the laws in the city or county in which you live. Some cities or counties require yearly vaccines and others require vaccination every 3 years. Your veterinarian will know the vaccine and law for your area.

Even though your dog may be only vaccinated every 3 years, you will still need to purchase the licensing rabies tag from your county every year.
