Is cinnamon raisin bread toxic to dogs?

Our question this week was:

My dog had a slice of cinnamon raisin bread last night and this morning she threw up and started shaking. She seems to be better now but she ate her vomit. Could she be having a reaction to the raisins in the bread? There were about 4 raisins in the slice.

Hi – thanks for your email. You wrote that your dog ate a slice of cinnamon raison bread and vomiting this morning and started shaking.

The biggest thing I worry about is raisin toxicity. A few years back – they discovered that raisins and grapes could be toxic to dogs. The amount that needs to be eaten can only be a few. I'd recommend that you call your local veterinarian.
