Our question this week was:
Dr. Debra – A heavy yellow jelly-like discharging is coming out of her vagina. What is it and what do I do? She is a 10-year-old female Chihuahua/ Miniature Pincher. She has never has a litter.
Hi – thanks for your email. You wrote that your 10-year-old female Chihuahua mix is having yellow vaginal discharge. I’d worry that your dog has a very serious condition called pyometra. Untreated – she could die. Take her to your veterinarian immediately.
Pyometra is an infection of the uterus that common in unsprayed older female dogs. The best treatment is to spay her.
An article that might be helpful to you is Pyometra in Dogs I’d recommend that you read this and take her to your vet as soon as possible.
Best of luck!
