Dr. Debra – I have two soft leather chew toys for my dogs. They are both very aggressive chewers and have actually chewed pieces of the leather off and are eating them. Will this hurt them?

Hi – thanks for your email. You wrote that your dogs are aggressive chewers and have chewed and ingested some leather chew toys. This can be harmful if they eat enough that causes a gastrointestinal obstruction. Please watch for signs of vomiting, lethargy or lack-of-appetite. If you see any symptoms – please contact your veterinarian immediately.

I'd recommend durable chew toys such as the Kong® brand toys.
