Our question this week was:
I have an 11-year-old female dog has vulva discharge? Why does she have this?
Hi – thanks for your email.
My first question is…is your dog spayed? If not, it may be a common problem called pyometra. Pyometra is an infection of the uterus that can be life-threatening. Some discharge can be a normal part of the heat cycle or normal after whelping.
There are other causes for vaginal discharge as well.
Also, you might like this article Vaginal Discharge in Dogs. It discusses all the possible causes for vaginal discharge and some options for treatment.
Best of luck!
