What is a Dog Toosie Roll?

Our question this week was:

This is going to sound stupid Dr. Debra – but some friends were laughing and saying their dog likes tootsie rolls and it had something to do with their cats, not the candy. I was too shy to ask what they were talking about, as everyone seemed to know but me.

Answer

Hi – thanks for your email. I think your friends were referring to the cat’s bowel movements. When in the litter box – they look sort of like…well Tootsie Rolls and some dogs like them and consider them a great snack. This has become a joke amount pet lovers that have both dogs and cats.

We recommend keeping dogs away from the litter box but no all dog owners do that.
