Hi – thanks for your email. I realize it has been very cold in many parts of the country this past week. Below 0 wind chills is very cold.

With proper good quality shelter in a healthy dog, they can survive in those conditions. I'd recommend that you provide good quality insulated shelter at a minimum. During temperature extremes, it would be ideal to allow your dog in the house (even the garage or basement).

Does at most risk for cold related problems include:

Dogs less than 6 months old or geriatric dogs

Sick, underweight pets or those on medications

Prolonged exposure or being wet

Previous cold-related injuries, such as frostbite.

Pets that maintain a "cramped position"
