TrizEDTA (Dermapet) for Dogs and Cats

Overview of TrizEDTA for Dogs and Cats

  •  TrizEDTA is a common over-the-counter drug used to treat and prevent ear infections in dogs and cats.
  • Ear infections are common problems, often caused by bacterial, fungal or parasitic infections, and treated with various medications. Pseudomonas is one of the bacteria often found associated with ear infections.
  • TrizEDTA is a buffer solution used primarily to treat ear infections, especially those contaminated with the bacteria Pseudomonas. When used in conjunction with other medications, it has been shown to also be effective in treating ear infections caused by other bacteria but is not effective in treating yeast or parasite infections.
  • TrizEDTA works by affecting the integrity of the bacterial cell wall, resulting in death of the bacteria. It also reduces the acidity within the ear canal slowing the growth of bacteria and helps breakdown inflammatory debris, making it easier to remove for the ear canal.
  • The effects of TrizEDTA are enhanced when used in conjuction with certain antibiotics.
  • Once the ear infection has resolved TrizEDTA can also be used as part of a routine ear cleaning regimen to prevent recurrence.
  • TrizEDTA is available over the counter but should not be administered except under the supervision and guidance of a veterinarian.
