Tips on Failure of Passive Transfer

Foals that do not receive these antibodies have a condition known as failure of passive transfer (FPT), which can be either complete, where the foal receives no colostrum, or partial, where the foal receives poor quality colostrum. Foals with FPT are more likely to develop septicemia, a life threatening bacterial infection which can manifest as pneumonia, infected joints (septic arthritis), diarrhea and meningitis.
