When not practicing medicine on animals, Dr. Hemmelgarn is an avid runner who has completed half and full marathons, including two NYC marathons. She loves to travel with her husband and also enjoys spending time at home with her family, which includes a dog and two cats. Louie the Rottweiler, who was the ring-bearer in her wedding, is always up for family adventures, like hiking, swimming at the beach, and stand-up paddle boarding. Elli the cat is the strong quiet type, while Iggy is a bottle baby with an attitude. Both are homebodies, but love their brother, Louie.
