Carey Hemmelgarn, DVM DACVECC

Dr. Carey Hemmelgarn is a board-certified emergency and critical care clinician who currently practices in the New York/New Jersey greater metropolitan area. She received her veterinary degree from Washington State University, but moved to the east coast to complete her internship before graduation. Dr. Hemmelgarn spent three years in a residency focused on small animal emergency and critical care, achieving board certification in Emergency and Critical Care in 2013. Dr. Hemmelgarn’s professional interests include trauma cases and blood disorders.

When not practicing medicine on animals, Dr. Hemmelgarn is an avid runner who has completed half and full marathons, including two NYC marathons. She loves to travel with her husband and also enjoys spending time at home with her family, which includes a dog and two cats. Louie the Rottweiler, who was the ring-bearer in her wedding, is always up for family adventures, like hiking, swimming at the beach, and stand-up paddle boarding. Elli the cat is the strong quiet type, while Iggy is a bottle baby with an attitude. Both are homebodies, but love their brother, Louie.
