How Old Is This Cat?

It is very common for cat owners to ask their veterinarians how old their cat is. Many cats are found or they come into our lives as adult cats, so many pet owners don’t know their cat’s age.

For kittens it is a bit easier to “guess” the approximate age. We know based on kitten dentition patterns when certain teeth come in (average ages) and when their adult teeth come in.

For example, take the canine teeth (the fangs that cats have in front). The adult version of those teeth come in at around five months of age.
